Pay for a service and loose it if not used

I had the 500min call option from Vodacom on contract for the past few years. I have lately not been using all these minutes and when I renewed my contract with the new contract options which included the 250min per month those minutes that I have paid for but have not used was cancelled within one month. What a complete ripoff. Thats like saying that if you have not used the fuel in your car then you have to go and give it back to BP.
