Unreasonable, appalling repair costs/warranty

To relay the reason of why I'm doing this is simple.
I recently ugraded to ablackberry Z10. Its costing me quite a bit, but I was like Its a good phone. It should last me 3 years
So anyways. On 09-06-13 whilst listening to music, my phone just switched off. Didn't take charge, nor did it come on. I went to a Vodacom shop. Booked it in and left it there.
8 days later I decide to check up on the progress of my phone and which took me a lot of time as well as airtime to track down which department to speak to regarding this.
I was shocked to find out that I'd have to pay a repair charge of R6899 or something like that. Coz at the time, the mere fact that I would have to pay outweighed the cost regardless.
Apparently because my phone had a small crack on the front of the screen. Which happened a week after I got it. Its utterly irrelevant to the disfunction of the phone.
I am disgusted and very irrate at this incident. I was not notified at all in these 8 days. The customer service lacked empathy. Seeing as almost R7000 is an insane price for something I didnt do
I do hope someone sorts this out. Because I will surely not pay this cost after having the phone for barely 3 months
