48 hours and counting... for a SIM swap

On the 11th of June I went into a MTN store to a SIM swap on my upgrade, to which I was told it could take up to 24 hours for the SIM swap to be activated. 24 hours later and my new phone still reads SIM rejected. I phoned MTN to report it and the operator informed me that a report had been lodged and that it could take up to 24 hours... again. No it's the 23rd hour and I phoned (since I'll be at a funeral this morning and therefore do not have time to follow up after 24 hours) with the operator informing me that unfortunately he cannot help me just yet because if he lodge request now it might take 24 hours again so I should rather wait the hour and then phone again (ding ding round 3) - I must add he tried to be helpful and shame, he got an earful. So, my question is, exactly how long should I wait for my SIM swap to go through??
