Phone not being repaired

I handed a blackberry in for repairs at the gateway walk in centre & after 2 weeks i had found out that i had to pay R900 or they cannot sort out the software problem on the phone due to scratches on the outside of my phone. I did not ask for my phone to be replaced or the cover of my phone to be sorted just the software. We had contacted the call centre & they told us that there is nothing we can do, we have to pay R900 or they will not be able to sort out the phone because it was scratched & things could happen while they were sorting the phone out like the cover may break (i cannot rememberthe exact words). If you break the phone or cover while sorting out the software issue then you sort that out, it should not be my problem. This was also not explained when i initially handed the phone in at the walk in centre. I have had this contract with vodacom for over 10 years and never had a problem with you guys until nw. All i want for vodacom to do is sort the software issue out with the phone, i am not concerned about the outside of the phone and the scratches it may have. Surely the scratches on the ph cannot be the reason for the software issue?
