New contract in 6 Months??

On the 31st of May 2013 I decided to get another upgrade on my phone but only problem was that my phone contract was in my mom name and every time I wanted to do something I needed her permission which is understandable I phoned the call centre to do the upgrade and opted to rather cancel my contract I had discussed it with the man at over the phone and asked him if I could rather cancel my contract and get a new one to have it in my name so I conference called the cancellation department with my mom and spoke to a woman there, I was informed that I could do an accounts swap but was told I would have to take my mom to the store to do so, but she works on weekends only to find out after I canceled my contract that all I needed was documentation from my mom to do so, I've been with Vodacom for over 10 years and never had an issue with the service up until now so after cancelling my contract and only to be told in store that I can't keep my number because not one person that I had spoken to in the call centre informed me that if I go back to prepaid after being on a contract I would have to wait 6 months before going on another contract which I find to be a huge bother at the moment.
