I had written a complaint about Planet Fitness in December 2012 regarding the fact that we pay double in December for upgrades. What was not mentioned by Planet Fitness is that upon signing up we already paid a signing up fee for equipment as explained to me. S therefore, I paid a fee for equipment upon signing up, I then pay monthly to maintain the equipment and then yearly to upgrade it. The costs are exorbitant. Secondly, the signing up fee is not even fixed, it depends on how much they can milk out of you and how vulnerable you are. I was asked R1200.00 signing up fee and finally settled at R500.00. My sister who signed up the same contract as me, paid R300.00 signing up fee. My friend who barely bargains paid R1500.00 signing up fee and we all have the same benefits. Secondly, the pricing is way higher then Virgin Active and yet there is no pool, no steam room and no squash courts, all which Virgin has at a fixed reasonable fee per month with no hidden fees for equipment and the likes. Besides, I got a cheaper monthly rate as I bargained a lot compare to my friend!!!??
