My husband signed a 2 year membership contract by Planet Fitness in January 2012. The gym was right next to his work. Within 2 weeks of signing the contract he had heard that their entire department was going to be retrenched end of month. We went to make arrangements with our creditors and he signed the cancellation form at Planet Fitness. This was after he had already paid the signing fees. He used the gym about 4 times in that period. At month end they stil debited his account. We stopped the debit order and contacted them and informed them of the cancellation. We heard nothing for a few months, and then got an account for about R7000. And again tried to contact them. Now again we receive an account for R10435 outstanding. We will not pay that amount for being a member for less than a month and using the fym about 4 times. But it seems impossible to get rid of these people and they never contact you back. How can they keep billing us if they accepted cancellation? Have they never heard of consumer laws? Beware before signing membership with these people as you will be a member for life and never get rid of them.
