Why should we pay for Employee's not trained

We were sold a month to month contract with Optimum Physique Gym in Delmas by Ashley Phillips. The 2 contracts were cancelled on the 11th of September 2013 and the month cancellation fee was paid on the 9th of September 2013 as arranged with Ashley. I received a call from the owner Mrs. Marriette Bezuidenthout this morning stating that I will be black listed as I did not pay 3 months cancellation fee and they do not have anything like a month to month contract. I told her that was what we signed with Ashley and that Ashley also said one months cancellations fee when we phoned her as we do not have a copy of the contract. The owner now refuses to give me copies of the contracts and she tells me there is no cancellations forms. These forms were emailed to the Gym as well as the proof of payment for 1 month. How does this become my problem if the person that sells u the contract does it under false pretence and then also not update documentation send to her on the system. The attitude I got from the owner was read your contract, pay or get handed over. Why does her personnel then give the wrong information? Is this just a way to get u to take a contract?
