My husbands membership was cancelled in December 2011, I paid in the R870 to reactivate the membership. He did go to the gym in 2012 and assumed it would have been cancelled after three months, which was not the case after a few months I phone Virgin Active and spoke to the accounts department and said that they must cancel the debit order to my account and said that they would. I was a few month later I cancelled my vitality and realised that Virgin Active debited my account with R500 odd rand. I then went there and was very unhappy, the lady in accounts told me that I need to fill out a form to cancel, that was not told to me previously when I phone. What I don't understand is that Virgin Active can cancel your membership if you don't visit the gym why don't they cancel the debit order as well. What is the purpose of paying the gym and not being able to use it. It does not make sense, they can however phone you after you cancelled to see if you want to join the gym again. Why would I after such poor service, you pay a monthly fee with no real customer care involved.
