I purchased a bag of sawdust from Rondebosch "Vetshop" in the first week of Feb. The bag looked fine on inspection. I replaced the old saw dust/hamster bedding and put in the new bedding. A few days later I noticed little flea-like creatures crawling on him and noticed a few on my bed because I had let him run around on my bed. The next day I noticed I had insect bites on my skin (little red raised bumps) Another few days later when I checked the cage I saw hundreds and hundreds of black AND red "dots" crawling all over the now dead hamster - his skin was pink from all the bites. I looked it up and discovered they were mites and can sometimes come from saw dust. When I looked at the saw dust packet that I kept away from the cage I saw hundreds of them in there too. The mite eggs were obviously in the saw dust when I bought it. Since I got rid of the sawdust I haven't had a return of the mites. I emailed Marltons and received complete denial that their product has caused this and that is why I would like to warn everyone on here. All I wanted was acknowledgement. I got a response a month later which was enough time to cook up a story... suspicious. Take responsibility! It was horrific!!
