Still waiting for the solution

Last year before the end of November, I took a cellphone contract with Vodacom @ Game stores. The guy that was assisting me asked if I a Vodacom number that I can use as a reference which I gave him the number and he gave me two sim cards and he said I must activate one of those sim cards for the contract. I have tried to activate the sim card but I couldn't. To cut the story short on the 3rd of January I received a tax invoice from Vodacom claiming that I owe them over R3000.00 for calls that I have made with my contract sim card (the one that I didn't activate). On the 19th I have contact their customer service looking answers I was told that the 076 number made the calls (that the number the guy @ game requested as a reference number and that sim card in a 3g modem which I haven't use since 2011 December. I have done my own investigation and found out that if a number has been in use for more than 6 months Vodacom recycles the number and give it a number sim card number. I have find out that the new sim card was used by a lady leave in spring and she is the one that made all the call. Now my question was who activated the 076 to contract. Why must i pay for someone's bill?
