I purchased a black and white diamond ring at NWJ advertised at 0.21 carats. It was sent for resizing but they gave me the certificate to take home.
When I got home I realised the certificate said 0.16 carats. I complained about this immediately and their Customer Relations Officer (Louise de Gabriele) simply said they were looking into the situation.
When I picked up the ring a month later they told me it was an error and the ring was 0.21 carats. They printed me a new certificate for 0.21 and I left.
After a few weeks a friend told me it was suspicious and advised me to contact the Jewellery Council of South Africa. I told the Council my story and they asked NWJ to respond. After about 2 months Louise de Gabriele (CRO) emailed back to say the ring was in fact 0.16 carats and offered me a voucher of R1000.
This is unacceptable to me as I believe I deserve a refund to the value of the mis-advertised carats. How many other customers are being swindled unknowingly?!!
