Loyalty points zeroed for no reason

I phoned Edgars on 1 January 2014 to change my account being posted to me to being emailed. I knew that I would receive 3000 points for doing so. I asked the lady to confirm my current balance of Thank-U points and she said it was R72. She did mention that the other new points will come later in the month. With the idea that I have R72 worth of points, I went to the V&A Waterfront's Edgars branch to make a purchase with my points. The cashier swiped my card and said I had no points. My points zeroed in a few hours... She even said that I was not the only client with no points that day... Did all the points disappear at the turn of the new year? Please look into the matter. I worked hard to earn those points. Thank you
