Refusing exchange on 2month old Russell Hobbs Iron

On 03/12/13 a Russell Hobbs iron plate burst while I was using it which I bought on 28/10/2013 at Shoprite Checkers Protea Glen Mall Branch. Cecilia Songo just looked at it and told me that she was not going to exchange it, it should be in a 'good condition'. 'Now why would any customer bring back a product that is in good condition'She suggested that 'I can throw it away and buy another one'. She then walked me up to a policy document & said my product falls under the MODIFIED criteria. What shocked me is the fact that she is adamant of her assessment but she does not know the meaning of the word "modification", which was very unsettling, @ mgt level such knowledge is a basic necessity. I suggested the dictionary route unfortunately the branch doesn't have one in stock. She started getting defensive, telling me that the store is in the business of making a profit. I told her I would take this up, to which she rudely responded "GO AHEAD", "ngithanda abafana nawe - translated as - I like customers that complain like you". what caliber of managers is Checkers breeding or hiring? Illiterate? Rude? Unprofessional? This poor quality of service can only be encountered in Township stores!
