Negative Balance required from Game to close acc

I went into a game store in Sandton to have my account closed.

I was told that having my account paid up isnt enough to have my account closed, the account needs to be in a negative balance for them to be able to close my account. I do not understand why I need to be giving a company extra money to have an account closed.

The first time that I paid up my balance, went back into the store a week or 2 later and found that I then had a balance of a few rands. How was interest even calculated on a zero balance? I was also told that I was being charged some insurance together with interest. Insurance on a zero balance? Seriously??

I then paid the few extra rands that was outstanding and was then told that I needed to pay more than the balance for my account to have a negative balance. Then only will game not charge me no interest and the account will be closed.

I really don't understand this concept!!
