I need to buy some jeans. On Monday evening I popped into the ERM Guess store and had a quick look at some of the styles available. A friendly gentleman assisted me and informed me of a special they have running, giving discount based on the number of pairs bought.
As we were expecting visitors, I didn't have time to fit and purchase, but checked with the salesman how long the promotion was running for. I was informed that it will run until the end of the festive season. I indicated that I will come back later in the week.
I went back to the store today, fitted on and selected some pairs I wanted to buy. On enquiring about the promotion, I was told that it ended on Tuesday. To my mind, the end of the festive season is at New Years.
I was informed that I cannot get the sale price as this will upset the auditors, but that I can come back tomorrow, when the person who helped me on Monday is on duty again. If he confirms his answer to me, they will have him pay the difference from his salary (which doesn't sound too likely on a shop assistants's renumeration)
I'd expect store staff to be knowledgeable of promotion dates and be able to make customer service decisions.
Not good enough.
