Unfair policy of NO REFUNDS

On Friday, 08/11/13, I popped into Midas New Germany to purchase a rear wheel cylinder. While there I realised that IF my brake shoes also needed to be changed I might as while buy it if I am going to be opening the drum anyhow. I inquired of the salesman whether I can return the part if I realised that it did not need to be replaced. He said that's fine as long the part has not been tampered with. Consequently, I changed the rear wheel cylinder and realised that my brake shoes had approximately 80% life and did not require changing. On Monday morning, 11/11/13, I popped into the store for my refund and a supervisor informed me that they have a policy of NO REFUNDS, and that they can give me a credit note. To which I said a credit note does not help me as I do not buy parts often, only as they're needed. I was annoyed, because had it been pointed out before I bought the part that there will be no refunds, I would NOT have bought the part, as I was in doubt as to whether that particular part did need replacing or not. The salesman says that he did not say that I can get a refund, so I took the part and walked away in frustration. I now notice that the receipt also says NO REFUNDS.
