Pot Lid Breaks

Bauer say their pot lids are heavy duty and virtually indestructible. I beg to differ as my lid from a three year old pot set has broken. It was not dropped and neither had something heavy been dropped on it. After washing and drying it, I placed it on its pot as always. About three min later it began to crack up on its own. I have never seen anything like this ever and would like a response from Bauer or Verimark as to how this could happen.
