I visit the East Rand Mall every Saturday to do my shopping and often visit the Ackerman's store in the mall. For the past few weeks the female security guard at the door has asked to search my handbag and Pick 'n Pay canvas carry bag filled with empty plastic bags for my groceries. I have no problem with her searching my bags as I have nothing to hide but the issue is that she allows prams and trolleys to leave without being searched. If there is a policy in place to search shoppers, it should be consistently enforced instead of singling out certain people. Why can Ackermans not afford metal detectors to place at the front entrance to the store as this would ensure that everyone is screened consistently and significantly reduce the cost of shoplifting and embarrassment suffered by singled out shoppers? If I am singled out again when I do my shopping tomorrow, I will proceed with legal action of discrimination as well as a social media campaign against Ackermans. I suggest you train the security guard adequately to prevent discrimination and legal action
