Spend more than R1000, ID please

Saturday 31st my wife was shopping at Clearwater mall Foschini and she spent more than 1 hour to 2 hours in the shop and the stuff started to suspect her.
We went to the till and produced by American Swiss card no problem. After scanning all the items I was called to produce my ID document
as we have spent more than R1000.00. I told the lady that I don't have my ID with me and my driver's licence is in my car.
Then we were told that they can't help us since we don't have documentations that proves that I am the owner of the card.
We couldn't believe the service that we were getting from these ladies, now I have turned out to be a thieve from being a loyal customer.
My wife is a store manager in one of the big retail companies and told them that if something like this happens it simply means they
suspect, the lady that was helping us told us that they have a lot of activities in Clearwater mall Foschini and that is
why they wanted my ID. Told her they must put a notice for attention customers and mustn't surprise customers on the till. Finally we were help after some very long chart with them.
