Pick 'n Pay
Charged almost R1000 for a R17 bag of parsnips

My family spends about R4000-5000 a month at Pick n Pay. I went to our local Pick 'n Pay, bought about R350 worth of baby stuff and about R200 worth of vegetables for my toddler. When the cashier rang everything up, the total was staggeringly over R1400. When I queried it, she said it was the baby stuff. Eventually I had 4 employees trying to sort it out and it took them about 20 minutes and they had to rescan everything in my basket for them to discover that the computer system didn't register the barcode of a R17 bag of parsnips so it just charged me R999 for it. Absolutely disgraceful that firstly, the computer has a glitch that will overcharge customers (which is effectively) who aren't being attentive (so much for trust from the "family supermarket"), secondly, that the cashier didn't pick it up and then tried to explain it away when I queried it, and thirdly, the manager who "helped" me just said "well, its a problem with head office" and was completely dismissive of my concerns and the inconvenience caused to me. As an "apology" I got the parnsips free which is a slap in the face after the seriousness of the transgression. CUSTOMERS BEWARE! CHECK YOUR SLIPS!!
