Goods paid for and held back

I paid for two dresses with a chip card. The transaction went through and I had the sms on my cellphone, but the shop printer malfunctioned and a receipt could not be printed. The manager then had to be called from her shopping trip in the centre, only to advise me that they would be keeping the goods until I could provide a bank statement showing the transaction had gone through and could then apply for the transaction to be reversed. My other option is to pay for the goods in cash (which would make a double payment) and then I could take the goods home. She promptly ignored any further queries and started serving other customers.
