Sabc
Money making scheme

My TV License was up for renewal 01/07/2013. During 05/2013 I received the renewal notice via e-mail. I responded via e-mail informing the SABC that I wish to cancel my TV License due to me not using my TV set. I received no response and accepted that they adhered to my request. I received another renewal SMS during 06/2013. I phoned them to ask why it was not cancelled and was only then informed that I need to submit an affidavit as well as a letter from a TV Repair Shop indicating that my TV is no longer in a working condition. I asked for the affidavit document to be sent to me, which wasn't. Only after I received another renewal notice and phoned again, was the affidavit sent to me (I submitted docs 2/8). All these delays caused me to pass the renewal date and nowhere in all this was I informed that I will remain liable for the payment of the annual TV License. I'm always referred to the Broadcasting act, which does not confirm that I will remain liable for the TV License. In fact there is a Ruling that states, if your TV is no longer in use, you don't need to pay for the remainder of that year. Now they refuse to cancel until I pay for a future service I can't use.
