I phoned towards the middle of July to cancel my DSTV with effect from 02/08/2013, which would have been the next date for a debit order.
I was given an assurance that it would be escalated to the right people and it would be cancelled. It was escalated, but the call center cannot tell me what happened after that.
I phoned today (01/08/2013) as instructed to check that everything was in order. I was told that my service hadn't been disconnected and the debit order hadn't been cancelled and I am going to be debited for R695 tomorrow!
The supervisor I spoke to was very helpful and calm and has promised me a refund. Multichoice's refund policy is by cheque only, so I hope that Multichoice doesn't expect me to pay a cheque deposit fee if it is required by my bank.
An important lesson is that just because a company says they will cancel a debit order, invariably means that they won't.
