Department of Home Affairs
8 MONTHS AND STILL NO UNABRIDGED BIRTH CERTIFICATE

I applied for my unabridged birth certificate on 10 Aug '12 at the Department of Home Affairs in Edenvale. I was told it would take 8-12 weeks before I received it & I would be notified thereof via sms. The 12 week mark came & went & so too did Dec, Jan, Feb & now March. On 7 Feb, I decided to phone the DHA call centre. I spoke to Yvonne Maleka who provided me with a case number, assured me that she had escalated the case & said I would receive feedback (if not, resolution) within 10 working days. 3 weeks passed & of course there was still no word. I called again. This time I spoke to Modise Mogopuvi. He was quite adamant that Yvonne had misinformed me. All he could say was that the system showed that my case had been assigned to an officer on 8 Feb but he had no further info. I was told to call YET AGAIN in 2 weeks. I received an sms on 20 March to say that I now need to return to Edenvale's DHA to fill in a DHA24 & DHA288. I phoned the call centre so as to try & ascertain what these forms were & if I needed any supporting documents. Unsurprising, the agent was of no help. I know of so many people who have bribed officials out of desperation but I refuse to go that route.
