After several months of not receiving a rates account we managed to get individual monthly invoices from BCM. On 4 September 2013 I wrote querying an amount of R1, 007. The following month the "outstanding" amount miraculously reduced to R554. However on 27 November I received a notice stating that unless I paid this amount my electricity would be disconnected, despite never having received any explanation from BCM of what the R554 was for. I tried phoning the municipality at 3pm on Friday 28 November to resolve the issue but got no response from the 7 numbers I tried. I wrote again asking BCM to send me a statement so that I could understand why they thought I owed this money. On Monday 3 December 2013 I tried 11 numbers with no response and at the twelfth number was told that the person could not help me as it was not her department. Since I seem to be in danger of having my electricity cut of for an unproven debt, and the municipalities failure to respond to a ratepayer for over 3 months I have no option but to seek an urgent interdict restraining BCM from disconnecting my electricity until such time as they prove the debt.
