So, my elderly colleague decided to be to responsible citizen that she is by submitting her tax returns - only to be told that the amount that she was paid in Dec 2008 by our beloved SARS was wrongfully transferred, hence they want her to pay it back (WITH INTEREST nogal).
QQ: how can SARS pay someone then turn around and tell them that the amount was not meant to be theirs and demand a refund AFTER 5YEARS??? Really???
First of all, the lady in question is our office helper, hence the amount they claim she owes was from a salary of less than R3000pm and she was not even permanently employed then.
Secondly, why wait a darn 5YEARS to demand your money back and threaten to poor lady with a lawsuit??? Like what the!!!
Lastly, surely the fact that she has been submitting her tax returns religious for the past years and received ZERO NOTIFICATION from our "efficient" SARS should count for something? SARS didn't even tell her that she is owing them until she went to submit her current stuff... really, guys... what happened to paying attention to detail and ensuring that you FOLLOW-UP IMMEDIATELY when you are being owed???
