SARS encourages efiling but are very quick at penalising honest mistakes! i have always submitted my returns on time, but recently i was penelized by sars for submitting wrong information which according to them i didn't take proper care in submitting my returns. now i don't understand how they could conclude on that, even after sending a letter of honest mistake and also sending all documents required ON TIME! I'm still penalised. funny how they are saying I'm being penalised for a mistake i did last year also but sars failed to alerting me on the mistake i did so that i don't make the same mistake. instead they audited me, fixed the mistake and left it. so i feel its greatly unfair for sars to penalise me on something they didn't warn me against. one only does their returns once in a year and can not expect to master it the next year, and if sars is going to penalise on every mistake then they shouldn't encourage people to use efiling... even their call center agents couldnt tell me ive been penelized, instead gave me wrong information that my employer was short paying my payments. i had to get a consutant to assist me but even after that effort sars sees the need to penelize me!
