I was employed by Absa and got retrenched and my last day was the 31 December 2008. Before my retrenchment package got paid I instructed Absa to liaise with SARS and get from them all monies that should be due to them, deduct and pay SARS.
According to Absa, that was done, and all monies due to me were paid. I submitted my annual reports with SARS in 2009/10/11/12 with zero returns because I was still unemployed.
To my suprise, in 2013 I got an sms from SARS, demanding R10500 from me. I went to their Pretoria North branch and logged a query with them. I was helped by a lady who referred me to their credit department. I send the recommended person an email. I followed up with him on numerous occasions as he was not responding.
Eventually I sent Mr Lakay (SARS spokeserson) an email. I got a call and explained the above to the lady who called me.
For two months my profile showed zero with SARS, that I do not owe them anything. To my surprise, I got another sms on the 20th Jan, 2014, SARS demanding R10916.00 from me. I called but was told I must just pay. I am still unemployed, but cannot understand why they say I owe them.
