I live in Centurion and work in Sandton, I am a regular user of the Gautrain. On Tues 02 July there was a "malfunction" with the Sandton scanners, I scanned my gold card as normal and got a green light I then preceded to my destination. When I reached Centurion the scanner wouldn't take my card.
I was then told by the consultant that I hadn't "Checked in" at Sandton, I was very confused and demanded an explanation. The lady then told me she is fining me R400 for trying to score a free trip. I was furious since my honesty was being questioned; she was the only consultant working attending ques from both ends. In a rush she then told me I can query the fine and showed me an email address on the penalty notice I can use. I immediately sent the email when I got home and it was nonexistent, I went back the following day to tell her and also mentioned that I had also phoned their call centre and they had no idea how to handle the situation.
I am a regular user of the gautrain and a very honest person, I was expecting them to check my gold card history, and I replenish my card regularly and feel violated. I have reached a series of dead ends and very disappointed. Penalty # 001147.
