I popped into the Craighall Post Office last week (the one in the parking lot of the Hyde Park shopping centre) to collect a registered letter. It was 1pm, and there were about 4 people ahead of me in the queue. However, only two Post Office staff members were on duty, and one was on the phone (from what I and others could gather, talking to a friend about her child's studies). She remained on her phone call for 20 minutes, while those of us in the queue became more and more irritated, especially when she then put down the phone to allow a newly arrived lady to jump the line entirely. The whole excursion took an hour, when the actual handing to me of my letter required about 4 minutes. This Post Office is just symptomatic of general disinterest, poor service culture, shoddy training and bad management. Expensive TV ads are all very well when the people on the frontline couldn't care less about the customer.
