Federated Employers Mutual Assurance
Payments in respect of injury on duty

In October last year I was injured on duty. In January I was informed by my employer that FEM / Federated Mutual Assurance will continue payment of disability premiums. Originally I was informed by Deon Williams that payments will be made for 2 years from the date of injury. In July he changed his mind and said it was only until I was declared fit for duty. Due to the fact that I still had issues the Doctor had to write "until further notice" on reports. When the Dr referred me to an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist and he submitted final report for his part of the treatment FEM wanted to handle it as a final report for treatment regarding the incident. After many emails and phone calls this issue was resolved, but I still have not received any payment from them. Payment of grants are always delayed and month end is continuously used as an excuse. My file was transferred from Deon to Duduzile sometime last month. When I emailed her she said she had to refer to Deon regarding the file and again used month end as an excuse. They also refuse to divulge how final compensation for injuries and permanent disabilities are calculated or the formula used to determine this amount.
