We left south africa in 1994, I cancelled our tv licence with SABC then. Some ten years plus later I got a phone call to say I was owing money for my tv licence, I explained the situation to them and was told to send in an affidavit to this effect which I did. I gave no more thought to the matter as I assumed it was over with. Now in September 2013 they have gotten hold of my mother to say that I am owing monies and have incurred penalties! When I asked for a statement of my account I got a statement with an opening balance of 1900 from beginning of 2011 and details going forward to a total of 3300 odd but am being told to pay 1940?? Surely if I have cancelled the licence and given proof that I havent been living out the country, I should not be held liable for this money?? Please help!!
