I have sent emails and made phone calls to confirm, YET THEY STILL CHARGE INCORRECT CUSTOMS DUTY!
They're charging an ADDITIONAL INCORRECT 10% on my imports!
When I phone them to complain, they say that it is SARS's problem. When I phone SARS they say it's the Post Office's problem. No one will let me talk to the actual person (s) who do these repeatedly incorrect assessments.
No business can afford to continue losing 10% off it's bottom line. It's going to close us down - yet more jobs lost!
Speak to Jhb Int Mail, and they advise you to send the parcel back. FFS, I need my stock! My customers are waiting. The post office's IN-HOUSE customs assessment people continue to do incorrect assessments even when I have pleaded with them.
The problem is not WHAT the item is or which classification or tariff should have been used. It's the fact that I have imported from the EU that they don't get right. There was a valid EUR1 Certificate of Origin attached to all of my parcels, but Customs only uses the 20% "GENERAL" tariff and doesn't use the correct 10% "EU" tariff. What's the point of our Government doing bi-lateral trade agreements if our Customs officials refuse to implement it?
