A package was posted to me from the US 5 months ago and has still not arrived. No one ever answers the phone at the craighall post office - I've just dialled them over 31 times and gotten a busy signal. I suspect the phone is off the hook. The couple of times I've been in to the post office in person the staff have been spectacularly unhelpful to put it mildly. The service is slow and begrudging, the queues move at a positively glacial pace, and when you finally do reach the front of the line you are invariably met with complete contempt. Because I have no tracking number the staff have implied there was nothing that could be done, and brushed me off. I do realise there was an illegal postal strike & a large backlog as a result but that was in March, it is now MAY, three months later. The contents of the package are both valuable and fragile and I worry that the longer it is held hostage by the SA postal service the greater the likelihood that it will be crushed under a mounting pile of undelivered mail. In summary, the south african postal service appears to be in a shambles. In fact, I feel almost certain that no one will read this or respond but if i dont write it i will go mad
