16 years debt

I have been receiving numerous sms about a Milady's debt. I called the debt collecting company MBDLC about the so called debt and they told me that the debt is as a result of not closing the account regardless of the fact that I paid off the account. I have been communicating with them asking them to send an email of proof of what and why I owe Milady's. Up until now I have not received anything. What I find very strange is that who really has a 16 years debt and not once have I been contacted by Milady's to notify me that I owe them.
