Yesterday, a baby's life was at stake. The child, stricken by Hydrocephalus (Water on the brain) and due to financial stress was in Steve Biko Government Hospital, and was being so mistreated by the staff, her life was on the line. A non-profit organisation (PayItForward SA) did a flash collection drive and within 24 hours raised nearly R 50, 000 for an operation in Unitas. Some of this was paid via PayFast, who correctly froze the account as it was not supposed to be used for donations. After 5 in the evening I posted on twitter referencing both the corporate twitter account and that of the CEO. Within an hour, the funds were released, demonstrating how caring PayFast really are. This is a wonderful gesture. Unfortunately some of the donors posted some rather harsh comments on Twitter, which is regrettable, but given the circumstances, and the urgency, I suppose one can understand.
