I am a member of Bonitas Medical Aid for the last 20 years. I was employed at UKZN until I was medically bordered due to my illness. I then moved from the Std Option to Bon Comprehensive Plan. The reason for moving to the higher plan was to obtain increased benefits. My premium increased by /- R1000 pm with the knowledge that i have additional benefits (refer benefit guide 2013). I am currently an Oncology patient & have been since 2005.My condition deteriorated this year & my Dr Landers prescribed the drug Erbitux to improve my condition. Dr Landers applied to the medical aid on the 28 Feb 2013 for approval & was declined on the 6 March 2013.In terms of the practice & rules Dr Landers appealed the decision on 12 March 2013 which was declined with no substantial reason but merely stated that the drug was a scheme exclusion. Avastin was applied for on the 28 March 2013 & was declined on the 9 April 2013 with the same explanantion of Scheme Exclusion. I am financially not able to pay for the drugs which i was of the opinion was covered by the medical aid. This has caused me additional stress & trauma. Your assistance will be highly appreciated if you can assist me in getting the medication.
