My wife is 11 weeks pregnant. On the 27th of Feb 2013, she started bleeding and I rushed her to the Linmed Hospital. The doctor on duty did a urine test and phoned the gynaecologist on call (Dr Tereblanche) and gave a summary of the condition. He mentioned that because my wife was not one of his private patients he would not come out! He also mentioned that based on the symptoms, this would be a miscarriage. We questioned the doctor of how they could make such a diagnosis without a scan! She said nothing can be done and wrote on the report "inevitable termination". She stated that Dr Tereblanche would come in the morning to perform the operation. We did not accept this and started calling other doctors. Finally we managed to get hold of Dr Naidoo. She was in utter awe of this diagnosis and agreed to meet us at Lynwood hospital (even though she was not on call and she had never met us before!). Immediately I took my wife to Dr Naidoo. Upon doing a scan, the baby's heart beat was evident and she mentioned that a miscarriage was not yet inevitable. Today the baby is still fine. If we stayed at Linmed, this would have been a totally different situation - a life would have been lost!
