My husband got badly injured during a rugby match while in Cape Town at the beginning of the month. He was rushed to hospital in an ambulance with a crushed nasal septum and a fracture of the right maxillary antrum.
The plastic surgeon on call had to operate immediately to stem the bleeding and repair his nose and cheek.
Now, a month later I am having all my days to get the surgeon paid. Fedhealth is paying R3 400 from R9 600 as the doctor was not on their network! Seriously Fedhealth, how was I supposed to check your website on a Saturday during an emergency? I checked later and you have exactly 3 plastic surgeons on your network in the whole Western Cape?? What would the chances have been to phone one of them to come out on a Saturday as my husband was bleeding profusely??
I phoned the call centre who said to send a motivational letter from the surgeon to say it was an emergency, I sent that 20 Feb 2013 and nothing since except a mail again to say the doctor was out of network.
I understand the reason for your network doctors so please don't write your little script to say why you do it. I made sure all other specialists are on your network but this was an EMERGENCY!!
