My husband and I decided to join a medical aid, we approached Spectramed signed up, was told that due to the fact that we both had not been on a medical aid for 10 years plus we had a 3 month call it dry period. This meant we paid end August, September and October and the we can start using the medical aid as from 1 November. We made our first payment at the end of August, however our financial situation took a drastic change due to a death in the family. On the 27th September I called the call centre, explained the situation and asked for the policy to be cancelled with immediate effect. I asked the consultant whether my contribution already paid (end August) could count as notice, I was told that someone would get back to me, no one did. I am now harassed on a daily basis about signing a admission of debt for the Sept and Oct contributions. This is daylight! I must pay 10k for a service I have and will never use. If I had that I wouldn't of cancelled in the first place!
