My mom received a statement for R3600 for a swob she had done after I rushed her to hospital. The Dr knew that she was not on full medical aid and that she only has a hospital plan. The Dr did not admit her as there was not enough bed space in the hospital (and this was a private hospital) but still requested swobs to be done. I am not sure if it was an after hour fee but the time was well over 7am. The person who came to do the swobs should have disclosed if there was an after hour fee or the costs involved in doing the swobs. This is non disclosure and if there was a fee for the call out (and since she was not admitted to hospital) She could have gone to the lab for the swob. This is the medical world and it seems everyone is out to make a quick buck. Non disclosure of costs is illegal and a documents should have been signed since it was a cash payment. It is extremely unfair to now put that kind of cost onto someone who had no choice in the matter. That fact that there was no disclosure and no signed document in full knowledge there was no medical aid should mean that she should not have to pay this amount. I expect that someone gets in touch urgently.
