I have been a member with medihelp for quite some time now and never had a complaint, until today.
My son was diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Concerta by a Paediatrician yesterday [10/10/2013] and today I contacted Medihelp's chronic medication department. I requested about going about getting Concerta approved for chronic by Medihelp. The lady who assisted me told me that she would email me an application form which has to be completed by the acting paediatrician and this form must then be sent back to Medihelp for authorisation which will take 5 working days - no problem there, but when I explained why my son needed the Concerta, for ADHD, the lady informed me that ADD/ADHD does not fall within Medihelp's PNP's list of diseases covered by chronic medication.
This means that I will have to fork out over R600.00 per month for Concerta which I seriously do not have just lying around. If I had the money to pay I would not be complaining.
I just feel that with our life style in this day and age, if a child needs the medication, then surely all medical aids should cover this even if a levy has to be paid by the member.
I am seriously not impressed with Medihelp.
