In December 2012 my child Luan, a Genesis Medical Scheme chronic Haemophiliac (genetic blood disorder) had an head injury (head injuries is the main cause of DEATH in haemophiliacs). I immediately emailed our contact at Genesis Chronic namely Ms Bonita Valentine and explained that i was on my way to the emergency trauma unit. The Dr at Trauma insisted a CT Scan be done ONLY because of haemophilia, a PMB. This due to if a brain bleed is happening only a CT scan will show it. If undiagnosed, luan could DIE.
Now Genesis refuse to pay from risk like all previous CT scans due to it being done at Netcare and not Red x Hospital. But netcare was 1 km from our home on the night of the emergency and the Red x hospital 50 kms away. The would not listern to any pleas or arguments and just without compassion or any understanding REFUSED. We are busy with a complaint against them at the Medical Aid Board
