I admitted my mother to 1 Life Claremont Hospital on Friday morning (3am) from the emergency ward. She's a pensioner with no medical aid & had visited the emergency ward thrice, costing in the region of R1, 400-00 per visit, without any success from the attending Drs. Van Niekerk & McCann. Before being admitted to the hospital, she had to pay R4, 040-00! On Friday morning I visited my mother requesting to see the attending Physician Dr. Tribe. I was told that I have to wait for him, when he does arrive & do his rounds, Heaven alone knows what time!! I cannot have direct or telephonic contact with him. I went back on Saturday to make the same request, even asking the attending Sister Andrews to call me when he does arrive, but to no avail. I went back this morning, but was unable to gain access to him. My mother has been admitted to Claremont since Thursday, it is now Sunday & I still have not been able to ascertain what is wrong with her, by speaking to the attending Doctor, who in my opinion is unwilling to engage me. Costs are escalating & I've no doubt that the medical bill would need to be settled, prior to her being discharged! The apathy & general arrogance is unacceptable!
