When I took out the medical aid, they were very quick and eager to sell the medical aid to me, but nobody thought it was important to tell me that I would be put under monitor for 12 months because I didn't belong to a medical aid for a short period. They only told me about the exclusions applicable for a pre-existing condition. Today I was supposed to be admitted to hospital for a procedure and only when I phoned for authorisation, I was informed about the monitoring. That meant that they need to decide first if they would authorise the procedure, which in the end forced me to cancel it, because it usually takes 48 - 72 hours for a response. Due to my occupation, this was the only time I could go for this operation. If I was informed properly before I signed all the documentation, I probably would not have signed it. This was the first time I would use the medical aid, but I could have saved all my premiums instead, put it in a savings account and paid this procedure today in cash. Before you sign up with them, make sure they give all the information!
