I was a member of Discovery Health as part of my company's compulsory medical aid scheme. I was retrenched from said company and when retrenched, you leave immediately. You literally go from signing your separation agreement to the front door. As a result of the retrenchment I had to move house, get a new phone number etc. Months later, I get my free credit report and see that I have a default listing (not a judgement, a default) on my profile. It lists Discovery Health as the company and Letter of Demand as the default type. The amount is R1480. It provides contact details. I then initiated contact with Discovery to find out what's going on as I have no idea how you can be in debt to a medical aid. I have never asked Discovery to extend me credit of any sort. They claim to have sent correspondence to addresses that I no longer use and have phoned numbers that I no longer have. They do not send registered letters, so have no proof of receipt. I have formally requested a statement from Discovery Health reconciling my account, so that I can understand how I can owe them money, but they appear to be reluctant to send this.
