I called the hospital pre-authorisations today, to have my procedure for the 2nd October authorised. I was then notified that I should be aware that my obgy was not on the Fedhealth network of doctors/specialists and that I would only be covered for R2644.00 if I had a c-section, which is nowhere near what the gynae is charging. I have been with Fedhealth since 2008, I had an emergency c-section in 2008 which I did not take a cent out of my pocket to pay for. My husband had his wisdoms out in 2011 and we did not pay a cent out of our pocket! Over and above my R4400 contribution that I now pay every month I must now pay if I don't use one of these network doctors/specialists. When we signed up with Fedhealth the reason we chose them was due to the cover being so good for in hospital visits. I have now logged onto the Fedhealth website to find a specialist in my area, that is a obstetrician and gynaecologist and the only specialists I see available on the websites are "General Practitioners" and "Pharmacies". Does this mean you have to go to a GP and Pharmacist to have a baby too??? This is absolutely ridicululous and appalling! When & how were members notified of this change?
