We visited Salt restaurant (linked with the Ambassador hotel) for a special occasion on January 9th 2013.
The setting is amazing. Sitting above the waves was incredible. However, the evening was soured by service that was sub-par. Perhaps it was unfortunate that guests of ours had recently visited Five rooms at the Alphen hotel and were comparing the experiences (price-wise, the restuarants are on a par). Upon presenting our bottle of MCC, we were told that they don't accept corkage. However, this was listed on their wine list at R80 per bottle - which we paid. The first thing listed on their computer printed menu was oysters - which they didn't have. (Hint - reprint the menu and correct the spelling). I understand that this restaurant serves as the hotel restaurant, but:
Kids running around and playing loudly?
The man behind us in board shorts and sandals?
When the time came for the bill, we struggled for fifteen minutes to locate our waiter (who was busy with takeaways). The Amuse-bouche on our bill (at no charge) never made it to our table. This was disputed by the waiter. When we left, the hostess had clearly retired for the night and there was no one to say goodbye.
