Fri. 31 May 2013, I was admitted to the hospital for an emergency operation straight from a doctors visit. I handed in all my forms at reception & gave them my ID as well as our medical aid card for the pre-authorisation of the procedure. I was told that I can in no way be admitted without a copy of the main member's ID document!!!??? My husband was not in his office to email this to me & I definitely do not walk around with a copy of his ID due to understandable safety & security risks involved with carrying that around with you. I eventually fetched my laptop & external hard drive out of my car to email it to the receptionist, since only admissions from the A&E department are deemed as emergencies! Do the people who enforce these rules realise that you actually can be admitted directly to the hospital without going home first (this is the second time it has happened to me) & would thus not be able to provide the required copy immediately? I was more than ready to turn around & go home, but would not risk my life like that & luckily I had an electronic copy that could be provided. Most of the time I do not drive around with these. Please allow exceptions to the rule!!!
